In the beginning...

This is how it all started for Don as a 14 year old with his first band Billy Whizz. A local pub band that played everything from Deep Purple and Cream to Rock and Roll. The other three members of the band were 6 or 7 years older than him, beer for them and lemonade for Don!

The Country Years

After a few years on the pub circuit Don was keen to expand his horizons and answered an ad in Melody Maker from a country band looking for a dep drummer. A short audition and Don covered a few gigs while their drummer was away on tour and was then asked to join the band full time. A year later he had his first taste of a recording studio when they cut their EP on an early independent label Velvet Records.

Following a five year stretch with The Jailhouse Band Don continued to do dep work and spent a few months on tour with The Ken Phillips Country Band.

SUMMER SEASONS & CLUB CIRCUIT

Like many musicians the club circuit and summer seasons kept Don busy, appearing in everything from a duo in the lounge bar to an 8 piece band in the ballroom.

FUNCTION WORK

Time spent with Tequila, China Grove and Mirage meant that the 1990's was a busy decade on the function scene for Don.
At the end of the 1990's Don formed his own trio Ambition and had ten years running the band until 2008.

DEP WORK

By the late 2000's Don's experience allowed him to keep busy mainly with dep work with a variety of bands.
